When They Go Low, We Go High

Written on :

Say what you want about the Obamas' but you gotta admit they give a speech like no one else does. Yes, they do! This week, I listened to Michelle's speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention (DNC) and I was overwhelmed with emotion. One of the glistening things about Michelle's speech was how well she communicated a clear position on her 'Why'. Why she thought her husband would make a great president. Why she decided to ensure her family's time in the white house formed a good foundation for her daughters. Why she believes this election will be a critical decision to decide who will have the power to shape the future of children in the USA. and finally why she believes Hillary Clinton is the best person to take over her husband's role as president. It made me consider my 'Why' in so many ways Why I write on a weekly basis Why I started an investment club with friends Why I have big dreams and work hard towards achieving them Why I tell myself to keep going even when it seems tough and I feel tempted to give up Why I keep my head up even when everything around me seems to be falling apart Why? When my son started to speak,  I noticed quickly that anytime we asked him to do anything or not do anything, he would always ask 'why?' Mummy, why? Why can't I play with your phone? Why do I need to eat vegetables? Why is it good for me? Why do I need to go to bed now? Why are you going to work? Why? Why? Why? I must admit, it can be annoying especially when you're not in the mood to explain yourself to a smarty-pants three (3) year old. However, my husband and I consciously decided to preserve our children's curious minds so we try as much as we can to answer all their questions with as much detail as appropriate. Or like I do with my six year old daughter, direct her to the dictionary, encyclopedia or Google! Lol

Curiosity is one of the permanent and certain characteristics of a vigorous intellect - Samuel Johnson

Michelle's speech was a reminder on why it is important to live conscious of why you do the things you do and why you believe what you believe. A reminder to stay curious about what's possible and keep breaking glass ceilings. A reminder to question the decisions you make unconsciously on a day to day basis. Is it truly grounded on a translucent stone of clarity? Are you absolutely sure this is what you want? or are you looking through blurred spectacles? Because, you see, your 'why' is what will keep you going when it gets crazy When you're down in the doldrums and you have no idea how you can possibly pick yourself up. It's your 'why' that'll nudge you to keep hoping, keep working, keep building and keep achieving. They'll say it's not possible but you won't listen You 'why' will keep you going and you'll keep trudging up the stairs. You'll ask yourself " What did I get myself into?" but you'll still keep going You'll see options to throw in the towel but you won't because at the end of they day, when it all comes together, you and you alone can prove to yourself what's possible and what's not. It's all up to you to go high, reach deep and figure out a way out. It's up to you to do what it takes, work hard or invest in yourself, if you want to ensure your life has meaning. It's all up to you. and I hope you take the high road.
